HVAC Through the Ages

A History of the HVAC Unit

Albuquerque CoolingHeating and air conditioning have been a necessity of modern life. While the present form of controlling the temperature in our world has only existed for a short time, there were still ways that our earliest descendants did keep themselves cool during the hotter seasons, and warm during the colder seasons.

One such way that cooling was attained was through ropes powered fans. There were also many different types of man powered fans in the Egyptian world. Water has always been a way to not only cool down areas, but also to heat them. In running water through cooler ground a cooling effect could be realized in a room or many rooms.

Heating

The same fact holds true for heating. Many regions of the world back as far as 1000 to 1500 would heat water and run the steam from that heated water through a series of small ducts or tunnels. This would allow for a larger home to be kept warm without having to have a heat source in every room.

The act of heating the water with fires also allowed for steam to be pushed in baths for the rich as well as provide hot water for bathing. Soon some larger buildings, such as castles would use wood fire flames to heat rooms. Sometimes this was done with individual fireplaces, and sometimes through a series of ducts to push the hot air to a variety of rooms in different locations.Albuquerque Air Conditioner Repair

By the 1600’s fans were used to circulate not only fresh air in mining shafts, but also to push hot air throughout homes. HVAC continued to evolve through a series of steam related items that would heat homes and spaces more efficiently. These could be run off of coal or even wood as the primary heating source.

The Dawn of Central Air Conditioning

The event of the heating system, furnace, was based off of these earlier inventions. Iy used not only a fan or series of them to move hot air from one place to another, it also used the theory of steam generation to generate the heat to be moved.

This eventually led to the development of central air and heating systems. These are generally located outside of the living space and the hot or cool air is circulated through a series of fans to push the air from one place to another. These systems can run off of gas, electric or even solar power.
