3 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Your Air Conditioning Unit

Albuquerque CoolingIn some cases, air conditioning might be considered a luxury, but in certain areas and certain demographics, it is a necessity. The elderly and those with breathing issues in particular can benefit from having air conditioning in warmer climates.

We want our customers with air conditioning to understand a bit about how their units work and can best serve them. Here are three things you probably don’t know about your air conditioning unit.

Your AC Pulls Out Hot Air To Cool Things Off

The primary job of an air conditioning unit is to cool off your house through the removal of humidity and heat. The AC unit thus pushes cool air into the house by pulling the heat out and outside. The air pulled out passes over cold pipes, which are commonly called evaporator coils.

These coils are filled with a liquid known as refrigerant. The refrigerant changes from liquid to gas upon absorption of heat from the air and then it goes outside of the house via copper piping. It hits another coil at this point and loses its heat while changing back into liquid form.

The other coil is outside and is known as the condenser due to the fact that it changes gas back to liquid. The compressor pump moves the refrigerant back and forth between the coils, changing the pressure appropriately.

Your AC Needs A Break

It’s important to lighten the load on your AC unit to allow it cool better and remain in good working condition. You can do this by reducing air leakage, shading windows and improving insulation.

Your AC unit has to work harder if there are various factors causing heat increase in the house. On especially hot days that might mean reducing use of the stove or dryer or any other heat-causing appliances. Another way to lighten the load is having a ceiling fan installed to move the cooler air around the house.Albuquerque Air Conditioning Repair Services

Change Your Filters

An air conditioning unit passes air over an indoor coil within the unit. The air filter keeps things clean and when it becomes clogged, then the coils and blower also get coated with dust or dirt.

These particles then reduce the air flowing through the unit and it will begin to struggle. Changing the filter on a regular basis will help keep the AC unit operating at peak condition as well as improving the air quality in your home.

It’s important to get all HVAC equipment checked by professionals at least once a year. In between professional checkups, it’s important to make inspection and cleaning a regular part of your maintenance routine.
